Completing your application
Information about completing and submitting your application for professional registration
When you feel ready to apply for professional registration, please download the appropriate application pack, which can be found on the CEng, IEng or EngTech pages.
The application pack contains:
- Application form
- Guidance notes
- Where to send your completed application
The application form is your opportunity to present your case for professional registration to IET peer assessors. You should use the form to give as full a picture as possible of your career history and professional development.
Before you start to complete your application form, you are strongly advised to read the guidance notes included in the application pack. In addition to these notes, this page will explain the purposes of the three main sections of the application form and give some examples to help you in completing the form.
Please remember that IET staff will be able to help you understand the purpose of each section of the form, and answer queries about supporting evidence (process related queries). If you have queries based on judgement (such as the suitability of examples) you are advised to contact a Professional Registration Advisor who will be able to offer peer advice.
View accountability diagram
The accountability diagram is your work family tree and is used by assessors to get a snapshot of your position within your company.
View career history
The career history is an annotated CV, which allows you to explain in detail the roles and responsibilities you have held during your career. Assessors use this to get an overview of your career progression and to see the gradual increase in responsibility in positions you have held (demonstrated by criteria such as budget control, workforce management, technical authority etc.).
View statements against criteria
The statements against criteria section of the form asks you to give evidence from your work against the 16 generic competencies for CEng or IEng, or the 13 generic competencies for EngTech. The assessors will be looking for strong, clearly written examples, which show you have really understood the competence statements.
