The history of mechanical systems, enhanced by advanced electrical / electronic techniques, is well documented for industry throughout the world. In particular, industries like transport and defence have moved to inclusive systems with automation, broadband communication and remote control. These advanced techniques appear not to be so widely applied in the Offshore Energy Industry.
With the Offshore Energy Industry expanding and with the current constraints on manpower and resources, engineers employed need to have a good grasp of this latest technology which is recognised now as the way forward to improve performance. There are examples, within the Offshore Industry, of the application of high calibre advanced technology.
